Data & map attribution

Chain locations: © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Pulled via the Overpass API using each chain's brand:wikidata tag (OSM data as of 2026-09-28). The derived location database is available under the ODbL on request.

Raising Cane's locations: taken from Raising Cane's official restaurant locator (980 open US restaurants listed as of 2026-09-27; “coming soon” restaurants are left off). Each official location was matched to an OpenStreetMap pin within 150 m where one existed (711 matched, using the official address); 269 were added from the official locator only. OpenStreetMap entries that duplicated an official location, or sat on a restaurant the locator lists as coming soon or closed, were dropped. Each pin is marked with its source (official locator or OpenStreetMap). All remain auto-pinned listings, not individually confirmed.

Zaxby's locations: OpenStreetMap only (831 US restaurants, OSM base 2026-09-28). Zaxby's official locator at zaxbys.com/locations advertises a sitemap, but its robots.txt disallows all paths (Disallow: /), so we did not scrape individual restaurant pages. Pins are labeled “widely reported · not individually confirmed” (press coverage, no company statement).

Chick-fil-A locations: OpenStreetMap only (2,776 US restaurants, OSM base 2026-09-28). Chick-fil-A's location sitemaps list about 3,484 location pages (including campus, airport and other licensed locations, and possibly ones that are closed or not yet open), so OpenStreetMap likely misses some restaurants. Pins are labeled “widely reported · not individually confirmed” (press and deal-site coverage, no company statement).

Swig locations: OpenStreetMap only (60 US shops, OSM base 2026-09-29), objects tagged brand:wikidata=Q114152842 or plainly named “Swig”, “Swig Drinks” or “Swig Soda” and tagged as a drink shop (or linking to Swig's website). Other businesses named Swig (bars, a gastropub, the Swig & Swine barbecue, campus buildings) and untagged building outlines are left out, and a shop mapped twice counts once. Swig's store locator lists about 180 stores, but Swig's website terms prohibit scraping, so we did not use it, and OpenStreetMap is missing many stores. Pins are labeled “chain-wide · not individually confirmed” (owner decision; press describes pebble ice, no company statement).

Circle K locations (greater Nashville only): OpenStreetMap only (18 stores, OSM base 2026-09-29), objects tagged brand:wikidata=Q3268010 or named “Circle K” (convenience store or fuel station). Only stores inside the 14 counties of the Nashville–Davidson–Murfreesboro–Franklin metro area are kept, using US Census 2024 county boundaries (public domain); a store mapped twice (shop and fuel canopy) counts once. Where OpenStreetMap has no street address, the street, city and ZIP come from a Nominatim lookup of the same OpenStreetMap object (shown as “Near <street>” when no house number is mapped). Circle K's website terms allow personal, non-commercial use only and prohibit collecting or storing its information, so we did not use its store locator, and OpenStreetMap is missing many Nashville-area stores. Pins are labeled “reported at Nashville-area stores · not individually confirmed” (local community report, no company statement).

Waldo's Chicken & Beer locations (greater Nashville only): 9 open locations from Waldo's official locations page (fetched 2026-09-28; its robots.txt allows that page and the site has no terms restricting it), filtered to the same 14 Nashville-metro counties by Census county boundary (the Cordova/Memphis location and all out-of-state locations are left off). Map positions come from OpenStreetMap objects and addresses (via Nominatim), the US Census Geocoder, or, for the Murfreesboro location, interpolation between neighboring OpenStreetMap addresses (approximate). Pins are labeled “reported at Nashville-area locations · not individually confirmed” (local community report, no company statement).
